1) As mentioned above, videos uploaded to SchoolTube must be TEACHER APPROVED.
2) Videos must adhere to SchoolTube's Standards.
Is a video that you want to upload to SchoolTube allowed to contain ANY copyrighted music, images or video footage?
No, unless you can provide SchoolTube with a copyright release or proof that you own the copyright, BEFORE uploading a video. Otherwise, please do not upload it. Any video found to contain copyrighted material will be inactivated and forwarded on to an advisory panel for review. Videos found to violate SchoolTube's Standards will be removed from the system.
If you have more questions concerning copyright, visit the Student Press Law Center at splc.org. The SPLC is a great resource for the academic community that offers legal advice to students, teachers, and schools - for free! On their site you'll find information, handouts, and online resources on everything from the first amendment and censorship to copyright and students' rights.
What format is required for uploading a video?
SchoolTube accepts these formats: wmv, avi, mov, mpg, mpeg, mp4 and 3gp.
Is there a file size restriction for uploading video?
SchoolTube Upload has a 100 MB maximum file size which, at typical video compression rates, should be around 15 minutes long or roughly 9 seconds per 1 MB. If your file is larger and still under 15 minutes then you should open it in your video editing software and export it to a new, compressed file with one of our accepted formats and a higher compression setting. An example of this from the STN convention is the Cougar Connection video (seen in the News and Journalism channel, Broadcasts program) which started out at 3 gigabytes. After rendering in Final Cut Pro it was reduced down to 89 MB, and uploaded from the SchoolTube booth at the convention.
TROUBLESHOOTING QUESTIONS RELATED TO UPLOADING VIDEOS
My video is under 100MB, why will it not upload to SchoolTube?
If your video is close to, but under 100MB, you may still need to
compress the video further before SchoolTube will accept the file. This
is due to the way some computers access and store files.
I'm using OSX Leapord, why am I having problems uploading videos to SchoolTube?
The version of Flash 9 that was launched with OSX Leopard has a
severe glitch. Please uninstall Flash, and then reinstall the beta
version of Flash 9. You can find a free download of the beta version of
Flash 9 at http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer9.html.
I uploaded a video to SchoolTube, but when I click on the thumbnail to watch it, nothing happens. What's wrong?
If you uploaded a video and it showed up on the site, it will still
take several minutes (up to 2 hours) for the video to be converted to
Flash and available for playback in our system. If it does not play
after a couple of hours, please contact SchoolTube, and let us know.
