Environmental Sound
The students will demonstrate an awareness of the sounds in their
environment. The students will further demonstrate an awareness of
situation specific sounds by noting sounds associated with a scene or
event of their choosing. Thanks to Ted Irving at Hightower High
School in Missouri City, TX for submitting this lesson plan.
Children's Storybook Project
Students produce a video version of a children's storybook. Students must bring in a book of their choice. (Rule of thumb: Less words and more pictures will make things easier on you). Students can use still cameras or video cameras for this assignment. The past few times I had students work on this assignment, I had them using video cameras with stills taken on a memory stick. (I then had them import all images into iPhoto and do some color correction...just a little side lesson). One other important note: it is MUCH more efficient to start with the narration voiceover in the timeline and then match the images to it, rather than working the opposite way! This project lends itself to all kinds of school outfits...any software you use can be plugged in to work. I think the nice thing about this project is that it alleviates any anxieties about creating a strong storyline...it's done for them, they can focus on the soundtrack and other technical aspects. It will also work for comic books! Thanks to Jeremy Brandt at Voorhees High School in Glen Gardner, NJ for this lesson plan submission.
